Landscape Business Owner Book of the Month: The Go Giver

Uncategorized Oct 04, 2021

The Go-Giver is counter-cultural and appears to be counter-business. But it resonates with me and with the truth that, all things being equal, people will do business with and refer business to those they know, like and trust.

Authors Bob Burg and John David Mann contradict the idea that you need to be a go-getter in order to be successful. Rather, they believe that when you make giving rather than getting your top priority in business (and in life), your success will follow. It’s about adding value to others, not because of what it will give you, but rather as a way of leading a satisfying life.

There are five laws mentioned:

  1. The Law of Value: your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.
  2. The Law of Compensation: your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.
  3. The Law of Influence: your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests first.
  4. The Law of Authenticity: the most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself
  5. The Law of Receptivity: the key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.

The book is short, entertaining, inspiring and easy to read - all things I look for in a book!

If you’re a human - you should read this book. Seriously! Humans need reminders that it’s not all about us. If you want a perspective that's bigger than your own personal gain - you’ll enjoy this month’s book recommendation.
